Sarah Burton

Sarah Burton is a British fashion designer and Creative Director of Givenchy. She studied fashion at Central Saint Martins, graduating in 1997, and joined Alexander McQueen the previous year. Burton became Head of Design in 2000 and succeeded Lee Alexander McQueen as Creative Director in 2010, leading the house’s men’s and women’s collections until 2023. In 2011 she designed Catherine, Princess of Wales’s wedding dress, and in 2012 she received an OBE for services to the British fashion industry. Givenchy appointed Burton in September 2024 to lead all of its women’s and men’s collections; her first collection for the house was presented in March 2025. Her career combines a long in-house apprenticeship with two distinct Paris-house creative directorships. Her progression from Alexander McQueen designer to Head of Design and then Creative Director is an unusually clear example of long-term in-house leadership in fashion.
