Phil Knight

Phil Knight is an American entrepreneur and the co-founder of Nike. After running for Bill Bowerman at the University of Oregon and earning an MBA at Stanford, he tested an idea for importing Japanese athletic shoes and formed Blue Ribbon Sports with Bowerman in January 1964. Knight built the company through athlete relationships, specialist distribution and a transition to proprietary footwear, then led its growth as Nike and as a public company. He served as chief executive and later chairman, becoming chairman emeritus in 2016. His founder role is kept distinct from current management and from the designers and athletes who created individual products.
