Fashion career profile

Nicola Formichetti

Nicola Formichetti is a Japanese fashion creative, stylist and editor whose work connects runway design, music and popular culture. He became a global creative figure through his collaborations with Lady Gaga, including the visual direction around the 2010 meat dress, while also working across fashion media. Formichetti led the creative direction of Mugler’s menswear and womenswear from 2010 to 2013, then became Diesel’s artistic director from 2013 to 2017, overseeing its main line and broader brand expression. In 2025, M·A·C Cosmetics appointed him Global Creative Director, effective May 19, giving him responsibility for the beauty brand’s worldwide creative strategy across campaigns, product, packaging and retail experiences. His current M·A·C appointment is outside Leola’s fashion-house brand catalogue, so the profile presents it as a sourced current role without linking it to an unrelated fashion label.
