Fashion career profile

Lazaro Hernandez

Lazaro Hernandez is an American designer whose career is closely linked to a long-running design partnership with Jack McCollough. They met at Parsons School of Design, where a joint senior thesis developed into Proenza Schouler, founded in New York in 2002. Hernandez’s work there helped define a modern American womenswear and accessories label with an emphasis on artisanal detail, tailored form and contemporary culture. The designers won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2004 and later received CFDA Womenswear Designer awards in 2007 and 2011. In 2025 Loewe named Hernandez and McCollough its co-creative directors; their first Loewe collection was shown that October. His current Loewe position is shared, and the directory records the two designers as separate people holding parallel co-director roles rather than merging them into a single creative-leadership entry. Their work connects New York design history with a Spanish house shaped by leather craft.
