Carl Franz Bally

Carl Franz Bally was a Swiss industrialist and the founder of Bally. Working from his family's ribbon business in Schönenwerd, he moved into footwear in 1851 and developed mechanised production, international distribution and social infrastructure for employees. The company opened stores far beyond Switzerland and became an early global shoe manufacturer. Later generations, including grandson Max Bally, produced specific designs such as the Scribe shoe, while twentieth- and twenty-first-century creative directors led changing fashion collections. Carl Franz is therefore credited with the original enterprise and industrial system, not every later product or the current Regent-owned business.
