La Rinascente
La Rinascente is the Italian department-store retailer with roots in the Bocconi brothers’ Milan business of 1865; its modern name was coined in 1917 by Gabriele D’Annunzio. It operates landmark city-centre stores across Italy, bringing fashion, accessories, beauty, jewellery, design, home and food together with local services and events. The retailer was acquired by Central Retail Corporation in 2011, a corporate fact that should not be confused with the ownership of the fashion houses sold in its stores. La Rinascente’s merchandising and cultural programming can make it an important route to market, but a product listing, concession or pop-up remains a dated commercial relationship rather than evidence of design authorship, a brand investment or a permanent exclusive. Central Retail’s consolidated reporting likewise cannot be labelled as La Rinascente-only performance without a directly attributable published figure.
