Fashion career profile

Shangguan Zhe

Shangguan Zhe is a Chinese fashion designer and the founder of SANKUANZ, the label through which he combines menswear, cultural references and experimental pop imagery. He graduated from Xiamen University in 2007, studying Visual Communication and Advertising, then developed a design practice that draws on subculture, technology and contemporary Chinese life. The label made its Shanghai Fashion Week debut in 2013 and entered the official Paris Fashion Week Men’s calendar in 2016. Shangguan was a semi-finalist for the 2015 LVMH Prize, which brought wider international attention to the house. The dates used to describe SANKUANZ’s beginnings are not fully aligned: the label’s own history dates its establishment to 2013, while an FHCM interview says Shangguan founded it in 2008. Those records could correspond to different stages, but the sources do not explain the distinction, so this profile keeps both attributed rather than selecting one as definitive. He remains identified by the label as its founder and designer.
