Fashion career profile

Serge Ruffieux

Serge Ruffieux is a Swiss-Italian fashion designer whose career moves between Parisian couture and ready-to-wear houses and his own accessories label. After a tailoring apprenticeship in Switzerland and fashion studies at Geneva’s HEAD, he interned with Thierry Mugler, Christian Lacroix and Sonia Rykiel, then joined Moschino’s Cheap & Chic line in Milan. He later returned to Sonia Rykiel and worked at Cacharel and Gérard Darel before spending roughly eight years at Dior. Following Raf Simons’s 2015 departure, Ruffieux and Lucie Meier jointly led Dior’s design studio through the 2016 transition; this was interim co-leadership, not a permanent solo creative-director appointment. Carven named him creative director in 2017, with oversight of women’s ready-to-wear and accessories; he left in November 2018 after three seasons. In 2021 he co-founded the accessories label 13 09 SR with journalist Émilie Faure and led its design. The timeline distinguishes the temporary Dior assignment from his Carven title and independent label.
