Pierre-Alexis Dumas
Pierre-Alexis Dumas is Hermès’ Artistic Director and an Artistic Executive Vice-President of Hermès International. A member of the sixth generation of the family associated with the house, he is the son of Jean-Louis Dumas. He graduated from Brown University with a degree in visual arts in 1991 and joined the family business before becoming Artistic Director in 2005. Hermès’ corporate filings date his Executive Vice-Presidency from October 1, 2005. His work connects creative direction across the house’s sixteen métiers, rather than replacing the specialist leaders responsible for individual categories such as women’s ready-to-wear, silk, watches, beauty and home. He has also chaired the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès and, since 2016, the public institution Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris. This combination of creative, family and cultural responsibilities gives him a wider remit than a conventional runway-only artistic-director position.
