Fashion career profile

Masha Ma

Masha Ma is a Chinese fashion designer whose practice connects London fashion education and early career experience with a later international label. She completed an MA in womenswear at Central Saint Martins in 2008, where her graduate collection was shown during London Fashion Week and purchased by the London retailer B Store. Before graduation, she interned with Véronique Branquinho and Alexander McQueen. Business of Fashion dates her namesake label to 2008 and describes its aesthetic as fluid and feminine with industrial references. An ANDAM finalist biography instead says she launched the label in 2011; the sources do not explain whether these dates describe different stages, so both remain attributed rather than collapsed. Ma presented collections in London before moving to the Paris Fashion Week calendar in 2012. That year she was selected for Vogue China and Yoox.com’s Talent Corner and took part in the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund China Exchange programme. Later interviews describe a related evolution of the label, including the MA BY MA STUDIO name used after her return to China. This profile keeps those naming and location changes attached to the designer’s career rather than treating them as verified corporate restructurings, and it distinguishes documented education and internships from formal house appointments.
