Dame Margaret Barbour
Dame Margaret Barbour is a British business leader, product designer and the long-serving chairman of J. Barbour & Sons. She joined the board after the death of her husband John Barbour in 1968 and became chairman in 1973, continuing a family company founded by John Barbour in 1894. Margaret Barbour designed the short equestrian Bedale wax jacket in 1980 and oversaw the Beaufort's introduction in 1983, while expanding international distribution and maintaining production and repair work in South Shields. Her stewardship is documented separately from the original founder and from later generations of family ownership.
