Fashion career profile

Bouchra Jarrar

Bouchra Jarrar is a French fashion designer whose career connects haute couture atelier work with house-level creative leadership. After studying at École Duperré, she worked in Jean Paul Gaultier’s costume-jewelry department and led the haute couture studio at Christian Lacroix. From 1996 to 2006 she headed Nicolas Ghesquière’s creative studio at Balenciaga. She founded her own Paris house in 2009, developing ready-to-wear and couture; the label received France’s official haute couture designation in 2013. In 2016 she was appointed artistic director of Lanvin’s womenswear, closing her namesake house to focus on the role. She left Lanvin in 2017 after two collections. In 2020 she returned to independent design with Edition collections. Her profile distinguishes studio leadership, her own label and the womenswear-specific Lanvin appointment instead of flattening them into a single creative-director title.
