Fashion career profile

Bill Gaytten

Bill Gaytten is a British fashion designer whose work spans the John Galliano studio and Dior. He trained in architecture at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London, before moving into couture at Victor Edelstein. In 1994 he followed Galliano to Paris, working across the designer’s own house and his appointments at Givenchy and Dior. After Galliano’s dismissal from Dior in 2011, Dior’s official archive identifies Gaytten as studio director and says he designed the next four collections before Raf Simons was appointed in 2012; this was an interim studio role, not a permanent artistic-director appointment. During the same transition, Gaytten was named creative director of the John Galliano label, whose menswear show he led. His career is notable for long studio continuity, pattern cutting and translating a designer’s concepts into finished collections. This profile separates the Dior interim remit from the John Galliano label title and does not treat the latter as a confirmed current role.
